Prison Island

From stone town we will be taking the small wooden boat or dhow and in 30 minutes we will be already in prison island which was built in 1893 as prison for the resistant slave but letter on it was used as the Quarantine Hospital where the traders to zanzibar were to pass there for medical check before being allowed to enter Zanzibar.

Now we can visit the ruins of prisons which some of them now serve as bars and restaurants, but also prison island now is most popular for its endengered species of giant land Tortoises brough from Mauritious in 1820’s

After the tour to the tortoises it is also possible to swim, sunbathe and snorkel if interested or you can just enjoy few minutes in the white sandy beaches before taking the boat to the way back to stone town.
